The Sickle Cell Center, operated by the Edo State Hospital Management Agency, is a state-of-the-art facility established to address the unique healthcare needs of individuals living with sickle cell disease (SCD) in Edo State and its surrounding regions. With a focus on holistic care and innovative treatment approaches, our center is committed to providing comprehensive services aimed at improving the quality of life for patients with SCD.

Mission

Our mission is to enhance the health and well-being of individuals with sickle cell disease through the delivery of compassionate, evidence-based care, advocacy, and education. We strive to empower patients and their families with the knowledge and resources needed to effectively manage their condition and live fulfilling lives. Additionally, we are dedicated to advancing research efforts to further understand and treat SCD.

Services

Diagnosis and Genetic Counseling: Our center offers comprehensive diagnostic services, including newborn screening, genetic testing, and counseling for individuals and families affected by SCD.

Comprehensive Medical Care: We provide a wide range of medical services tailored to the needs of patients with SCD, including preventive care, routine screenings, management of acute and chronic complications, and specialized treatments such as hydroxyurea therapy and blood transfusions.

Pain Management and Supportive Care: Our team is skilled in the management of pain and other symptoms associated with SCD, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach that may include medication management, physical therapy, and psychological support.

Psychosocial Support and Counseling: We offer counseling services and support groups to help patients and their families cope with the emotional and psychosocial challenges of living with SCD, including stress, anxiety, and depression.
